Blue Angels

I was thrilled to get to the Gary/Chicago Airport just in time to watch the fearless US Navy Blue Angels take off for a practice run in preparation for the Chicago Air Show.

I never tire of watching the squadron of F-18s taxi in formation and finally take-off into the sky.

The One That Got Away

It was difficult to keep up with the fighters as they sped down the runway as you can see by the one that got away.

Another important member of the team is a C130J Super Hercules. Appropriately nicknamed “Fat Albert”, the C130 carries spare parts, equipment, and support personnel between shows.

The Stone Family

Just three days ago, I said on my “The Art and the Artist” post that I rarely take photographs of people and here I go and take on an entire family portrait!

Say hello to the
Stone Family

Spotted this clan as I was walking along the shores of Lake Michigan. I thought they were quite creative and fun. Don’t you?

Sense of Foreboding

One might think that being out before sunrise on a foggy morning might create a sense of apprehension or foreboding.

Sense of Foreboding

Quite the opposite is the case for me. The assurance of the sun rising and breaking though the fog is one thing that has not failed yet.

Sunrise on the Prairie

Sunrise breaking through the morning fog on Mnoke Prairie – Indiana Dunes National Park.

This is a marvelous trail for an easy stroll and bird watching.

The Mnoke Prairie trail combines with the Little Calumet River Trail. The short version of the hike starts at the Bailly Homestead and goes along the Little Calumet River for about a mile before coming to a fork on the path. A sign to the left marks the start of the Mnoke Prairie. The looped trail from this point is slightly less than one mile long.

Sunflowers – Radiant and Fanciful

It is impossible for me to look at fanciful sunflowers without smiling. These were enjoyed at the Community Garden of Butterfly Meadows in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Do they make you smile?

The Calming Sky

The Calming Sky at Sunrise

“It’s not just my imagination. Looking at the sky, the clouds, the moon,
and the stars really does make me feel calm and hopeful.
It’s much better medicine than valerian or bromide.
Nature makes me feel humble and ready to face every blow with courage.”

The World is a Canvas

The world is a canvas for photographers even when that backdrop may be close to your own backyard. For me, that canvas is often the Indiana Dunes National Park. The image above was captured on one of my mornings at the Indiana Dunes National Park. This is Lakeview Beach on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Foggy days are ideal for watching the sunrise at Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve. If you enjoy mornings of quiet peacefulness and beauty, this is the perfect place to start your day.

Pause From Buzzing

Taking a Pause From Buzzing Around

A honeybee was busy gathering pollen in downtown Chicago’s Lurie Garden. A leisurely stroll through Millennium Park led me to little bit of nature in the midst of tall buildings in the Windy City.

Black & White Photography – A Class All its Own

Don’t do black & white photography much but I sure enjoy it when I do play around with it. I find this type of photography difficult because of the nuances of refinement and classiness that seem to pop out of an image that is captured well. I am working on that and I don’t give up easily. Alway up for a challenge, I am.
